Semiconductor processing technicians perform tasks in the manufacture of electronic semiconductors, commonly known as integrated circuits or microchips, that are used in cars, smartphones, and other everyday devices.
The demand for Semiconductor Processing Technicians is expected to grow 11% from 2024 to 2034, much faster than the average for all occupations. In 2024, the median pay for this job was $24.60 per hour or $51,180 per year. (Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)
This course offers an in-depth exploration of the semiconductor industry ecosystem, covering everything from career sectors to the fundamental materials used in integrated circuit (IC) fabrication. Students will build a strong technical foundation by reinforcing electrical and mechanical fundamentals and applying them to advanced systems, including circuits, transistors, sensors, pneumatics, motor controls, PLC’s, and electromechanical integrated systems.
The curriculum provides a detailed walkthrough of the semiconductor process flow, spanning from initial lithography and etching to final back-end metallization and packaging. Hands-on training focuses on the critical infrastructure of the cleanroom, including the operation of vacuum pump systems, operation of industrial robots, gas delivery safety, and precise chemical handling. Finally, participants will master manufacturing efficiency through the study of metrology, root cause analysis (RCA), and quality control methods like Statistical Process Control (SPC).
