Technical Skill Training Opportunity for Veterans!

In collaboration with the Microsoft Imagine Academy, U.S.VETS, Arizona Commerce Authority, Slalom, and the Institute for Digital Progress, the Maricopa Community Colleges are excited to offer a Microsoft Certification program designed specifically for veterans through the Maricopa IT Institute!

Microsoft Imagine Academy-Program Description-1 Program Description

This program prepares students to take the Microsoft Office 2019 Excel Expert certification and covers a variety of topics, including how to manage and format data, use advanced formulas, validate and audit data, analyze data, use simple macros, and collaborate with others using Excel. Each module provides guided steps and a cornerstone project to apply the skills learned. This is a self-paced class with specific start and end dates. This program also includes resume training, job coaching, and a virtual career fair!

  • The first cohort is FREE for up to 20 veterans
  • Offered online with weekly, in-person lab hours
  • Meet with industry leaders and hiring employers, including a career fair upon successful completion

Microsoft Imagine Academy-Program Details-1 Program Details

Start Date: July 13, 2020
Location: Online; weekly lab hours will be held at the Maricopa IT Institute in Downtown Mesa (see map)
Dates/Times: Lab hours will be conducted on Saturdays from 12pm - 3pm

Students will have the opportunity to sit for formal certifications and participate in a career fair towards the end of the program.

Microsoft Imagine Academy-Prereqs Recommended Program Prerequisites

It is recommended that students enter the program already possessing the ability to:

  1. Create a new workbook
  2. Enter and edit data
  3. Save and print
  4. Apply basic formatting (changing font type, size, shading, & color; add borders; number formats)
  5. Copy, move, & paste data
  6. Create basic formulas (sum, subtract, multiply, divide)
  7. Create basic functions (=Sum, =Average, =Min, =Max)
  8. Create, format, and edit a basic chart
  9. Sort data
