Designed as an introductory course, this program provides essential knowledge and hands-on learning about Industrial Technology for the Semiconductor Industry, a critical component of today’s technology. Developed in partnership with major employers like Intel, it offers a broad overview of industry processes and skills, many of which are transferable to other advanced manufacturing fields. Whether you're exploring a new interest or considering future opportunities, this course is a great first step into the world of semiconductors.

What is the Semiconductor industry?

The semiconductor industry builds the microchips that power nearly everything, including phones, cars, medical devices, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technologies like AI. These chips are made in highly specialized facilities called fabs, where skilled technicians operate advanced equipment to create the tiny circuits that drive modern life.

Arizona is one of the fastest-growing semiconductor hubs in the nation. With record-setting investments, new chip fabs, and major employers expanding across the region, the state is experiencing unprecedented growth.


Maricopa Community Colleges’ short-term training program is designed to help prepare students for jobs in this industry, to help students gain skills and knowledge to apply to an Automated Industrial Technology certificate or degree program, and to help individuals interested in applying these skills to other growing sectors of manufacturing.

Semiconductor Technicians help manufacture semiconductors (essential components of electronic devices) with the use of special purpose furnaces, x-ray equipment, chemical baths, and equipment used to form circuitry and change conductive properties. These technicians work in a clean room environment and wear "bunny suits" (an overall garment to minimize contaminants).

 

Arizona leads the nation in pay for Semiconductor Processing Technicians, with an average salary of nearly $30 per hour or $62,370 per year (Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)!

Cost

There are no upfront costs. You will be registered and enrolled at no cost. Upon successful completion of the class, passing the NIMS Technician Certification test, and passing the Professional Skills course with at least an 80% prior to or within 2 weeks from the end date of the course, you will be eligible to receive a voucher in the amount of $306 which fully covers Arizona resident tuition or partially covers non-resident tuition, including the $15 registration fee. If you do not successfully complete the class, including the NIMS certification and the Professional Skills course, within the allotted time frame, you will be responsible for all costs.
